Orphan Bird

This week I was lucky enough to catch up and interview the guys at Orphan Bird, I came across the talented duo at a recent press day and absolutely fell for the brand. Founded in 2012 by Italian designer, Ciro Supino, and Swedish photographer/visual artist, Sara Lohman . The orphan bird label features men’s and women’s wear  with the emphasis on not following trends, their collections fuse Traditional tailoring techniques with a retro futuristic twist. Another great brand to keep an eye out for in the future. Check out the full interview below.

Please introduce yourselves and tell us a little bit about Orphan Bird.

Orphan Bird is the brainchild of  Italian designer, Ciro Supino, and a

Swedish visual artist, Sara Lohman; together we combine a concept

from both our respective cultures and backgrounds to create unique

aesthetic designs. The garments epitomize elegance with a minimal

retro futuristic structure.

So Orphan Bird is a duo, tell us about your roles in the company?

We see ourselves as two different sides from the same tool. We don’t

share the same experiences but we do share the same vision. Ciro is

a designer and I am a photographer but our fundamental ambition is to

evolve by learning from each other. Surely, we do divide our daily tasks

effectively although we don’t define our respective roles in the company

with a strict formula.

What was your inspiration for your AW14/15 collection?

AW 14/15 “Forms of Boundaries” collection was inspired by

the contemporary architecture in Singapore combined with the

Scandinavian landscape aesthetics.

Who are your favourite fashion designers? And why?

Yohji Yamamoto. We cherish his tailoring skills and his focus on

innovative textures and shapes on each individual garment.

Are there any celebrities you would love to dress?

Tilda Swinton, she is the essence of androgynous beauty.

Where do you work on your designs and projects?

Our entire design developments takes place in our studio, which is

located in Gothenburg, Sweden.

What’s one of your favourite cities in the world?
