With new brands popping up every day you literally have to keep your ear to the street to keep up. Thankfully there’s so much creative talent to be seen and one place where you can catch it is at London Fashion Week. There I met the lovely SK Wong, designer of the brand Eskay W. When I popped down to the Wolf and Badger showroom and I had the pleasure of interviewing him about his Eskay W brand. After working and training under the renowned designer Donna Karen and Jasmine Di Milo, SK Wong finally decided to start up his own brand. I caught up with him to find out about exactly what he gets up to.

Eskay W London’s SS15 collection ‘Merge’ fuses classic 1950’s style with luxurious fabrics in a stunning take you anywhere wardrobe. Inspired by evocative and thought provoking images captured through the lens of Alex Stoddard and Brian Oldham, this unique collection showcases eminently wearable silhouettes.

The use and function of each piece working through from day to night, casual to formal.
Who’s your favourite fashion designer and why?
I always found this question is very hard to answer with so many talented fashion designers in this fashion industry to choose from. If I had to choose one, Donna Karan New York will be my favourite.
Having an opportunity working with Donna Karan New York back on 2008, allowed me to experience the amazing design process for a successful collection, working alongside a good, organised company to leading the success of the brand. Her signature “seven easy piece wardrobe” inspired me when I create my collection every time. It’s simple, sophisticated system of dressing that takes a woman from day into evening, weekday to weekend. Her creations are current and well related to modern today’s women: sensual, urban and body conscious. Donna Karan New York understands what women want and the times they live in. Her creations are always relevant and reflect the here and now.
Are there any celebrities you would love to dress?
Women are my inspiration! They are central to everything I do. The way they look and the way they dress is key to my inspiration. I wish I could dress every celebrity around the world. Kate Bosworth, Gwyneth Paltrow and Natalie Portman are at the top of my list.
Where do you work on your designs and projects?
When I start designing a collection I basically work anywhere I feel comfortable, which allows me to get inspired and energetic. I like freedom and hate get restricted in a room with a computer. I have to admit that I do enjoy working outside away from the studio when the weather is good and pleasant. You can find me in some galleries, museums, libraries and even the park where I can sketch and draw.
Is there any particular music that you listen to whilst designing?
Music! Oh yes!!! I can’t live without music, especially when I’m designing. Most songs get me going when I’m designing, as long as it’s not making me sleepy. I do like listening to contemporary, RnB, soul and classical.
What’s one of your favourite cities in the world?
London. Life is about appreciation. I appreciate every opportunity with the people I’ve met and the experience I’ve gained in this fantastic city. I moved to London and graduated at the University of Arts. I then worked in a London fashion house before setting up Eskay W London. London has truly given me opportunities and impacted my life so far. I’m very proud of my brand name with London at the end.
